Mayan Hot Chocolate - Inspired by the film Chocolat
Mayan hot chocolate is great for those cold autumn/winter days/nights. It is a special treat for in front of the heater, even as a special treat for when you are watching the film Chocolat.
So if you a keen to get your Vianne Rouche on? Lets get to it!
Ingredients:
- A block of the darkest chocolate that you can find. For me in New Zealand I like to get whittakers Dark Gahana chocolate. Use about 3 rows, you can add more in if you have more people that would like a cup. Keep in mind with more rows = more milk used.
-1 small bottle of Cream
- Milk - keep in mind that this uses quiet a bit of milk depending on how much chocolate you put in. One cup is a great starting point.
-Cayenne pepper
-Nutmeg
-Cinnamon
1. Add both milk and chocolate to a medium sized pot. And stir, DO NOT stop stirring or that causes chocolate to stick to the bottom. Melt the chocolate into the milk until there is no chocolate lumps left (you will know what I mean by this as chocolate that hasn't melted yet floats to the top).
2. add in one pinch of cayanne (you can add in more if you like it spicy). One pinch of nutmeg, and 2 pinches of cinnamon (you can add in less if you are not all that into cinnamon, as lets be honest I am a cinnamon junky).
3. Whip your cream! you can choose to use the whole bottle, or you can use half. The reason as to why I haven't made the cream optional is because the cream tones down the sweetness of the drink. If you don't have cream or you have forgotten it, adding in extra milk is just as good.
4. (Optional) sprinkle cinnamon on the top.
enjoy your hot chocolate treat!
